Article 70: People-Initiated Referendums

The Legislature shall enact provisions for the holding of a referendum on any matter of national importance that does not contravene the Bill of Rights, Freedoms and Responsibilities or any other provision of this Constitution, when initiated by a petition signed by not less than twenty-five per cent of persons registered as electors.
The result of a referendum held under this section shall be binding on the Government and the Legislative Assembly if more than fifty per cent of all persons registered as electors have voted in the referendum and have approved the proposition.
